Two buildings. Two ideal settings. Four priorities.
For 25 years, Light of Life Rescue Mission has been making an effort to relocate to a better location on the North Side.
The time has finally come for us to embark on this historic journey of building and renovating a new home for the homeless.
Our Four Priorities
SpaceWe will move from cramped facilities to buildings with more physical space to provide life-transforming care, including a space for a women's and family shelter, and expand our Street Outreach program to reach more homeless.
DignityMoving from a major city street where our clients and meal guests are in the public eye to buildings in more private settings allows all who come to us during critical and vulnerable times to receive services with more privacy and dignity.
AccessibilityThe two new locations are in areas that are more reachable for the people seeking our services. Also, we will be moving from buildings without accessibility into two spaces that are fully accessible, making it easier for the elderly and those with disabilities to receive our services.
CommunityAfter the relocation, we will sell the E. North Avenue property near the former Garden Theater and the Western Avenue property. This will provide new opportunities for urban renewal and development taking place on the North Side.
The New Locations
At our current building, located on E. North Avenue, people who are homeless are walking across traffic, through the park, within the businesses and residences, and just beyond an elementary school to receive meals, shelter, and services. Our relocation to two buildings puts us in the areas where people who are homeless already are, making it easier for them to receive services. Light of Life will also bring a presence and security to these areas.
